Before we explain you the process of using cyanoacrylate adhesives, let us first tell you what these adhesives actually are. This type of glue can best be described as a quick-setting superglue, which is used primarily for fixing objects made of metal, wood and plastic. You can also use this glue to combine things made of wood, plastic and metal.
Cyanoacrylate glue belongs to the category of acrylic resins. It is not like the traditional glues used by students (these glues are mostly water-based). Cyanoacrylate is made up of several ingredients but is so named because its main ingredient is cyanoacrylate. This adhesive will not bond when applied directly to certain plastics or to dry surfaces. To create a perfect bond, you need to add a few drops of water to the glue. Also, sometimes the moisture present in the air is enough to force the cyanoacrylate adhesive molecules to chemically react and form a strong bond between the surfaces you are attaching. The reactions take place within a few seconds after adding water to the glue. To learn more about the process of using this glue, read the following notes carefully.
• Before beginning the process, clean the surfaces to be bonded. Any grease or oil on the surfaces will prevent the adhesive from giving the results you expect. Also, don't forget to use sandpaper to remove paint (or other finishes) from metal or wood surfaces.
• The next step in the process is to wet one side of the porous ceramic surface that you wish to bond.
• Now take the tube of cyanoacrylate glue and apply a drop to each square centimeter of one of the two objects you want to join. Apply the glue to the object you have not moistened.
• Then press the moistened surface onto the adhesive surface and press together. Hold the two surfaces together with moderate pressure for about 30 seconds. This gives the glue enough time to form a chemical reaction with water.
• Give the glue joint a further two minutes to harden. The joined surfaces are then absolutely resilient. However, we recommend waiting another 12 hours before using the object. Cyanoacrylate bonds are known to reach their maximum strength after 12 hours of application.
