The topic of hot melt adhesives will most likely sound boring and irrelevant to the vast majority of the population. However, you may be surprised that they are actually used for a lot more things than you might think. Not only could you use these things every day, but they could even be a necessity that, believe it or not, you couldn't live without.
For example, anyone who plays a woodwind instrument may know that without the use of this glue, this would not be possible. The glue is used to stick pads on keycaps, so without it it would not be possible to play instruments like saxophone, clarinet and flute.
You know when you get a free gift with a magazine like a CD or the free samples stuck inside? Nobody ever seems to be able to figure out exactly what this stuff is, but so many are oddly intrigued. It is actually either glue dots or hot melt glue. So for those of you who thought hot melt adhesives had no meaning in your life, now you know that without them you wouldn't be getting free samples in magazines.
Another strange phenomenon for many people is what they stick on envelopes and stamps to make them sticky if you lick them. Yes, you guessed it, this is quite commonly a hot melt adhesive. The reason this is a common method is because hot melt adhesives can be formulated to increase their water sensitivity, which is why they become tacky again if exposed to anything wet.
Adhesives like these are used for so many other different things, from diaper construction and gluing parts together in manufacturing to sealing boxes and assembling crafts. Not only is this such a widely used method, it is also a very trustworthy one and people might be quite shocked when they know exactly what is based on it.
Hot melt adhesives are used in the manufacture of airplanes, cars, trucks, boats and buses. It's a frightening thought that something as simple as glue could be used in the manufacture of a mode of transportation you can rely on every day. However, it is not uncommon for hot melt adhesives to be used to eliminate the need for staples, screws, nails and other mechanical fasteners.
Anyone who has read this and been pleasantly surprised by the many uses of hot melt adhesives will be happy to know that they can also be used for the simplest things in the household. From hanging pictures to making birthday cards, finding something you can't use it for would be more of a challenge than the other way around.
